The Portland Montessori School, celebrating 53 years of serving families and children with Montessori education, is seeking an Executive Director to provide overall operational and executive management for the School. The Executive Director (ED) should be a dynamic leader who believes in the mission and has the vision and skills to enhance and maintain the School as an exceptional Montessori educational program. The ED works with the Board of Directors and Leadership Team to establish the strategic direction for the organization and implements the steps necessary to achieve the Schools short and long-term goals.

The ED works to enhance the reputation and recognition of the School and establish a visible presence in the community at large; ensure the quality and professionalism of programs delivered by the School; provide direction and leadership of the schools staff, promoting the highest quality professionalism and teamwork; provide direction and overall leadership for sustainable fund-raising efforts; and attract new students to the School by developing potential referral sources and establishing outreach programs to the population the School serves. This is a full-time salaried executive position. The ED reports to and serves at the pleasure of the Board of Directors.

Desired Qualifications, Skills and Abilities include:
Bachelors degree or more in applicable discipline with at least five years experience in non-profit leadership and management.
Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, cooperate and effectively interact with parents, students, teachers and other staff, donors and referral sources to achieve results.
Effective management of personnel, including experience in successfully developing teams of professionals and appropriate delegation of authority and responsibility, recognizing and valuing professional expertise and experience.
Motivation to learn about and fully support and promote Montessori education " its values and principles.
Above average ability to use PC based tools for communication, project management and financial and other analysis.
Must have transportation and be available to attend meetings and events throughout the Portland metro area, including in the evening.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Direct and clear oral and written communication skills, in English; effective listener
Desire and ability to represent the School in the community and among our constituencies.
Strong Marketing, Fundraising and Development experience
Previous experience with non-profit Board of Directors

The Portland Montessori School has a long-standing tradition of educating children for life. Founded in 1962 as Providence Montessori School, we were the first Montessori school in the Pacific Northwest. We offer primary and elementary programs that build on a rich history of learning, friendship and community. Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) recognized, and guided by a gifted team of certified professionals, we are committed to helping children develop a lifelong love of learning and cultivating the skills essential to authentic living.
We currently serve approximately 160 students with our thriving primary program for ages 2 1/2 through 6 and our growing elementary program for grades 1 through 6. We also offer before and after care as well as holiday and summer camps.
Located in Northeast Portland, our centralized campus location offers a convenient location for many Portland-area neighborhoods.
Portland, Oregons largest city, is known for its parks, bridges and bicycle paths, as well as its microbreweries and coffeehouses. The city hosts thriving art, theater and music scenes. Outdoor adventures are plentiful with two large rivers running through the city and just an hour to either the Pacific Ocean or snow-capped Mt. Hood.
