ECE/K Montessori/dual-language teacher
We seek exceptional candidates for the following position for the 2012-2013 school year: ECE/Kindergarten English or Spanish instruction in a dual-language and Montessori setting Teachers will teach entirely in the designated language in close partnership with another teacher who teaches entirely in the other language. RESPONSIBILITIES: At Valdez, we seek candidates who demonstrate exceptional skills, experiences, and qualities to serve our students and our unique community. This teacher will be responsible for the following: • Plan and implement excellent and differentiated instruction for all students. • Facilitate learning for all academic subject areas as well as language acquisition in students’ first and second language through use of common oral language development strategies. • Collaboratively work with a grade-level partner teacher on a daily basis, sharing two integrated groups of students. Both teachers must work to design and sustain mirrored classrooms and practices. • Plan and implement integrated thematic curricular units incorporating science and social studies content into engaging and differentiated units of study. • Administer and analyze multiple assessment tools to regularly and consistently monitor student progress and differentiate for each student’s needs. • Support and implement all components of our dual-language model, including instructional practices and strict language model. • For ECE/K classes, support and implement all components of the Montessori philosophy, including instructional practices, materials, and culture, in a multi-age environment (3-6 years old). • Build and maintain positive and open relationships with students and families. • Become a positive and contributing member of the Valdez staff and community. • Be supportive of the Valdez Innovation School status and be willing to act and think about education, teaching, and school reform in a creative and outcome-oriented way. • Other duties as assigned. VALDEZ ELEMENTARY SCHOOL OVERVIEW: Valdez School is a Denver Public School with “Innovation” status. Valdez serves students in ECE (age 3 and 4) through 5th grade in a Spanish-English dual-language program. In addition to the dual-language model, the ECE/Kindergarten classes also operate a Montessori model. Innovation status, granted in June 2010, provides Valdez with certain autonomies from District, State, and union regulations, allowing us the ownership and freedom to make Valdez an outstanding school. VALDEZ ELEMENTARY SCHOOL MISSION: The mission of Valdez School is to serve families from diverse socioeconomic and linguistic backgrounds. Valdez students will graduate with linguistic, academic, and social skills so as to be successful and contributing, bilingual members of our diverse society and economy. Student learning will be evident through a number of data-driven indicators. QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must be “highly-qualified” and licensed in their grade level area, as recognized by the State of Colorado. Spanish-speaking classroom teacher candidates must have native, or native-like, Spanish fluency in speaking, reading, and writing. English-speaking classroom teacher candidates are preferred to be verbally bilingual so as to communicate with parents. ECE/K teacher candidates must have Montessori certification or be willing to attend Montessori training through the summer prior to teaching. Candidates may be financially responsible for part/all of Montessori training. Because of the extensive Montessori training, we seek ECE/K candidates who will make all efforts to teach at Valdez for at least three years. Candidates must have excellent references.
