VALDEZ ELEMENTARY SCHOOL OVERVIEW:
Valdez School is a Denver Public School with “Innovation” status. Valdez serves students in ECE (age 3 and 4) through 5th grade in a Spanish-English dual-language program. In addition to the dual-language model, the ECE/Kindergarten classes also operate a Montessori model. Innovation status, granted in June 2010, provides Valdez with certain autonomies from District, State, and union regulations, allowing us the ownership and freedom to make Valdez an outstanding school.

VALDEZ ELEMENTARY SCHOOL MISSION:
The mission of Valdez School is to serve families from diverse socioeconomic and linguistic backgrounds. Valdez students will graduate with linguistic, academic, and social skills so as to be successful and contributing, bilingual members of our diverse society and economy. Student learning will be evident through a number of data-driven indicators.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must be “highly-qualified” and licensed in their grade level area, as recognized by the State of Colorado. Spanish-speaking classroom teacher candidates must have native, or native-like, Spanish fluency in speaking, reading, and writing. English-speaking classroom teacher candidates are preferred to be verbally bilingual so as to communicate with parents. Candidates may be financially responsible for part/all of Montessori training. Because of the extensive Montessori training, we seek ECE/K candidates who will make all efforts to teach at Valdez for at least three years. Candidates must have excellent references.

COMPENSATION AND COMMITMENT:
As an Innovation school, we offer letters of agreement with our teachers, resulting in “at will” employment. We value and retain teachers who are highly effective at: increasing student achievement; engaging students; implementing our core values and practices; and functioning within our school culture.
